The process of descaling is one of the most important maintenance activities. Very often failures of espresso machines are caused by "calcification" of the device. In practice, this means that lime deposits formed in the coffee machine as a result of high water hardness reduce the possible flow. As a result of this process, the device makes coffee very slowly with a reduced temperature of the beverage and completely changes its taste.

Using our experience, we improved the descaling process by adding a coffee block cleaning tablet. The manufacturer of the Saeco Lirika has not introduced cleaning the coffee block with a cleaning agent for this model. For this reason, the thrown tablet does not dissolve completely, but instead collects and cleans the deposits and grease left inside the block.

Before performing the decalcification and cleaning process with a tablet, remove the block and rinse it thoroughly with warm water.

Decalcification with cleaning of the block should be carried out regularly to avoid the above-mentioned problems and extend the life of our device.

Cleaning the coffee block

It is always best to disassemble the block and rinse under warm water before the decalcification process and cleaning the block with a tablet.

Open the side door
Remove the block by holding down the PUSH button and the cassette underneath.
Thoroughly rinse the coffee block and cartridge with warm water
Dry the coffee block,
Before inserting the block, we make sure that it is in the resting position - the arrows on the wall of the block are directed at each other.
Slide the block into place so that the hooking is done without pressing the PUSH button.

Saeco Lirika - Decalcifying and cleaning the brewer with a tablet step by step

If the espresso machine in the cockpit and while turning off displays the descaling sign , it is necessary to carry out the decalcification process.

We use cleaning products COFFIX Descaler ECO i COFFIX Cleaning Tablets, which are ideal for cleaning the Saeco Lirika espresso machine.

Enter the programming menu of the device by holding down two buttons at once for about 2 seconds ; LATTE MACCHIATO and CAPPUCCINO.
With the button to turn on the machine, you enter the programming menu.
Press the MENU button until CALC CLEAN is displayed.
Use the START button to start the descaling program.
Remove the water tank. If you are using a water filter remove it for descaling and immerse it in a vessel with water
Fill the water tank with descaler solution according to the ratio:

1.5L of cold water poured into the dash on the side of the tank,
150ml agent COFFIX Descaler ECO.

Open the side door and use the PUSH button to gently slide out the block.
Into the large hole at the top of the block put the COFFIX cleaning tablet.
Slide the block into place and close the door.
We put the tank with descaler solution in place.
If you have one, place a 1.5L container under the spouts. Otherwise, the machine will ask you to empty the drip tray several times.
Press the START button. The machine begins descaling and cleaning the coffee block.
After rinsing the descaler solution, remove the tank and rinse thoroughly with warm water from the residual descaler.
Fill the tank with 1.5L of cold water to the line on the side of the tank.
We put the water tank in place.
Press the START button. The coffee maker starts rinsing from the descaler residue.
After cleaning, empty the drip tray.
If we used a water filter, we put it back on.

Worth knowing

Irregular decalcification and cleaning of the block leads to failure of the device.
Set water hardness - When we first start up, we test and set the water hardness of our appliance to determine the water parameters and the frequency of the descaling process. Therefore, it is important that the water hardness is tested correctly.
Water filter - Using a water filter COFFIX CF105(High-quality filter replacement - like Brita Intenza) improves the taste of the coffee, but most importantly reduces the amount of limescale deposited inside the machine. So it's worth taking care of your machine and changing the water filter regularly.
After descaling, it's a good idea to wash the machine of any remaining drops of detergent using a cleaner COFFIX Espresso Cleaner And microfiber cloths. This will help keep the device looking great.
